A Corfu yachting family since 1971.
Since 1971
Two generations on the water
Having lived and studied for ten years in Germany and France — Business Administration, Commerce and Foreign Languages — Spiros Salvanos set up a Travel & Shipping Agency in Corfu Port in 1971, becoming a ship and yacht agent to commercial ships and crewed charter yachts, and entering the yachting world.
Operating the classic schooners Agena and Odysseus, he established SAL Yachts and built, over the following years, a fleet of mainly bare-boat charter yachts from 30 to 52 feet. A licensed open-seas yachtsman for both sailing and motor yachts, Spiros was also an intrepid aeronaut — an FAA-USA and Greek licensed private pilot from 1985, and one of the first private aircraft owners in Greece. He once flew his Piper Arrow home from the USA, arcing over the Atlantic near the Arctic circle, and used his aircraft to support the charter fleet across the Ionian.
In 2010, one of his sailing charter yachts, Perithia (a Bavaria 44), completed a circumnavigation through the North Passage — north of Canada, the Arctic and the Bering Straits, and on through Alaska.
Spiros Salvanos passed away in February 2020. His wife, Sofia Ilia-Salvanou, and his daughter, Andriana Salvanou, have taken over the yachting business — Sofia is today the head of SAL Yachts Shipping, Yachting & Tourist Enterprises, which operates all week and all year round as the exclusive De Valk Yacht Broker in Greece.

- 1973SAL Yachts Shipping, Yachting & Tourist Enterprises begins operating in Corfu.
- 2010The sailing charter yacht “Perithia” (a Bavaria 44) completes a circumnavigation via the North Passage — north of Canada, the Arctic and the Bering Straits.
- 2019SAL Yachts becomes the exclusive De Valk BV yacht broker and a partner of YachtBid B.V.
- 2020Spiros Salvanos passes away; his wife Sofia and daughter Andriana take over the business.

At the centre of Ionian yachting
Our office sits almost next to the Domestic Terminal of the Port of Corfu, and is strategically close to Gouvia Marina, the New Benitses Marina, the under-construction Mega Yacht Marina at the International Corfu Port, the Corfu Old Port Marina and Paleokastritsa Marina. Corfu is not only the capital of the Ionian islands but the centre of yachting in north-west Greece.
